To all you moms, soon to be moms, grandma's, sisters, cousins, aunts....here's a question for you....
Now that I have had two showers, tell me what you think I really NEED! I am missing a bunch of things, but I want to make sure I am not just getting cute things to fill a room, and support the economy. I want to make sure that Carter will get what he needs. So please e-mail me, or comment some advice.
To help here's things I don't have, but I don't think I NEED, at least right now, what you do think...
Diaper Gene
Dresser
Breat Pump
Bottles, real ones, not just the cute pooh ones
humidifier
diapers, (how many should I have on hand)
Wipes (how many..I don't want a closet full looking like Costco.)
Toys
3-6 month clothes
swing
high chair
Another topic of advice.....what should I actually bring to the hospital? I am getting ready mentally to pack a bag, to have with me at all times. What should I bring, and what don't I need?
music
clothes for me
clothes for baby
blankets
pacifier
car seat
burp rags
do I need to bring my own diapers
any creams?
hygene stuff?
THANK YOU
JOLENE

Hi Jolene, It sounds like your set to me. These days the Dr. has DVD's in the hospitals to help moms out. Take care of yourself, because that takes care of the baby.
Get the rest, exercise, and good nutrition you need.
You'll probably be nursing the first 3 to 6 months after that it's rice cereal and applesauce. I made my own apple sauce without sugar and additives. A blender stick is a must, or blender. You blend everything.

you know most of what I think already, but I would get a diaper genie, definitely. Other than that, I can talk to you...your so prepared, I've never packed my bag completely until I was in labor ;)
Important too: you don't have to have everything before he comes, a lot of it you can get later...I think you have mostly everything you'll NEED right away...besides it's fun to shop for them when they're here :)
I am so excited for you guys!! It's getting close! I'm not sure of what you already have but I will tell you my thoughts on the things you listed. The hospital normally provides binkis, diapers, blankets, and even a little hat and onsie for your little one. In fact we cleaned the drawers out of supplies before we left. The hospital wont let you leave with out a car seat so that might be a must...hehe. I totally agree with Kara on the diaper genie. You would be amazed at how potent even the wet diapers can get. A swing was an absolute life savor for me until Peyton grew out of it. Seriously if you can get one!! We got a long fine w/o a high chair until Peyton was 6 months and a breast pump was also the best thing ever, you can store milk and use it later for feedings when you are away. Infact I only pumped b/c Peyton had some issues latching and I was determined not to give her formula. So I hope this helps sorry for the lengthy novel!! You will be surprised at how easy you fall in to parenthood.
Don't forget a camera and/or video camera. Also get a lot of sleep 'cause you'll be missing it.
If you have diapers, clothes, and wipes, all you need is love (for your son and husband) and prayer.
Have fun!
