Poison Control

Well. Have you ever had one of those days where you just feel like you're in over your head?
I have.
Yesterday I had to call Chris to leave work early, I just couldn't keep my eyes open, (litterally, Islept only 2 hours the night before.) Carter was running around. My allergies were so bad. Last night I enjoyed a benedryl, sounds so wierd I know. But hey I slept for 5 hours straight. It was the best night sleep I've had in weeks.
I started havng contractions on Sunday, I am 1cm dialated. My guess is another 1-3weeks. My contractions are only every hour or so, but they take mybreath away.

Today Carter was helping me with the "baby" (our neighbor's little boy, who I watch 2-3 days a week.) When I was putting him down for a nap, Carter grabbed my Tums, from my side of the bed. I have always called them a "Shaky Shaky" He liked to hold it and shake it. Like a rattle. Well, he's growing up so fast. I guess he figured out how to open it. While I was putting Charity down for a nap. (the other little girl I watch, can you see when I feel like I might be in over my head sometimes) Carter sat himself down in the living room, which was my first clue something was different, he normally helps me tell Charity good-nap. Well I walk out, to find Carter sitting in the baby's bumbo seat, munching on Tums.

I think I normally have things pretty together. But these past few weeks I know things have slipped a little. I have had to call the doctor multiple times, Cat Bite, Tums, not including the times I didn't call and wanted to: rash on foot, rash on tummy and spread to wholebody, blisters all over one foot, (most likely new shoes are the cause), etc. Well called the doctor today too, and they gave me the number for poison control.

It didn't even occur to me that my child may have just ODed on vitamins. (to be honest I don't have any clue how many Carter had, I dug 2 out of his mouth, he may have only had 1 or 2, or maybe 15? who know.)
Well Poison Control said to have him drink 4 oz fluid, ......right, do you know my child? I can't force him to eat or drink anything unless he wants to. I tried Apple juice, Ice tea, Chololate Milk, etc. He was full. (he really should have taken advantage of the moment I would have given him Coke if I had it. Which may have counter acted the Tums anyway.)

Long Story Short. I hvae much more understanding for mom's who's children get into things. When your pregnant, and/or watching other kids, you really can't see what's going on every second. Even good parents still have to call Poison Control.

This happened to me too, the more you have it's impossible to see them all at once. Carmen and Lissa both got into some medication at my parents house not hard to do since they keep it all out in sight. So we kept epitac and the poison control number close by.

After Lissa was born I stopped baby sitting for awhile. I picked it up again when she was talking and walking.

It just was too much living in a little trailer with no fenced in yard to watch more than the two I had and no car.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You did all the right things and Carter will be just fine. It's impossible to catch everything. Jason once ate a silacadry packet that he found inside a bag at Target. A couple of hours after we called poison control they called us back to see how he was. Kids are just naturally curious which is why they have guardian angels.
