Many of you know I was earily with Carter by 3 weeks. So needless to say, I thought I'd be a little early with Chase too. Never did I think I would find myself past my due date of May 29th.
Chris and I were in a new stage we never saw coming, we actually discussed being induced. Something I never thought I would have to do. I went to 40 weeks and decided that at 41 weeks I would be induced. I was getting to the point where I couldn't even take care of Carter. (It turns out I never had to make it to my induction appointment)
Tues June 1st I had a doctor appointment, and I had been 3cm and completly dropped for 3 weeks at this point. I had contractions every 10-15 minutes, and I still wasn't going anywhere. My doctor said she could try to break my water and see if I go into active labor before inducing, however, if she breaks my water and nothing happens she'll have to induce the same day. She said if anything changes or happens to just come on in whenever I was ready. The very next morning Wed June 2nd at 4:53am, I woke up to another contraction, but this time it was different. It's hard to explain, but I knew something different was happening.
Chris and I got up, got ready for the day, and around 7am headed to the hospital. Carter was in good care of Chris' folks, don't worry we didn't just leave him at home. We stopped at Starbucks, per Chris' request. In the car on the way to the hospital was the first time I thought, man, these contractions are really taking my breath away. So labor I knew had begun on it's own..... yay.
I got all checked into the hospital, at that time I was 3-4cm, contractions every 8 minutes or so apart. It was about 9am. My nurse said that the doctor would let me labor a while, then come in and break my water. Since it was my second they thought labor would go faster. By 1:20pm I was just at a 4-5cm. (NOT GOING FASTER) I was a little disappointed. But the contractions still were not unbearable. Chris and I watched the Food Network, played pictionary, and talked a lot.
Then when the doctor came in to break my water....it all changed. She broke my water right around 1:25pm. She said she'd be back in 2 hours to check my progress. The very next contraction after my water broke was very strong. I knew things were changing. I no longer wanted to talk with Chris, but just focus. I walked around the room a little, sat on a exercise ball and rolled back and forth, while Chris rubbed my back. I was feeling a little nausiated, since I didn't eat that morning. I also kept telling Chris I just felt like I had to go to the bathroom. (we should have paid much more attention to that.)
After about 30-49 minutes I had to get into bed and sit and count my breathing with Chris, because the contractions were coming so fast, every minute for 1.5 minutes. My nurse came in because she was watching my monitors and the baby's heart rate dissapeared. I wasn't really worried by that since I had wiggeled around a few times that day and it happened then too. Well she couldn't find the heart beat. She asked me to roll on my side, she still couldn't find it. Finally she looked lower and found it. (she acted very relived, which made me nervous, since I was thinking after going through all this natural labor and pain, I was going to end up haing an emergency C-section.) The heart beat was so low, she wanted to check my progress at that time, 3pm, and not wait for my doctor at 3:20. Good thing she did.
I was already 10cm, plus 2 and crowning. No wonder the baby's heart beat was so much lower. She quickly pushed the call nurse button, shouted, "get Dr. Allen here for delivery", and tossed an oxegen mask on me, and said keep blowing and don't push. (WHAT!!!!!!!)
That was the hardest thing I had ever had to do. Way harder than the pain of the contractions. I remember I was still on my side holding Chris' hand, while he kept saying, blow, blow, blow. (I guess if you are blowing out, you can't really push at the same time) The nurses were quickly changing things over to get ready for delivery. Dr. Allen did make it in. At 3:07, while I was still not pushing I was asking, can I put my legs up, (they had just gotten those stirup things would to help push) before I could move my legs, Chase's head poped out, at that time I was trying to lift my right leg. As soon as I got my right leg up his body poped out, then I got into position to have the placenta out.
Looking back, It was kinda nice not having to spend anytime "pushing", I spent 7 minutes trying to not push, but Chase wanted out. So I guess I could say that labor did go really fast for me, since I wasn't really in any pain unless 1:30, and had Chase at 3:07. It went so fast, that I didn't even have time to think.
It was more painful afer this time than I remember. I had a 2nd degree tear, there was so membrain in my unterous that the doctor had to keep trying to get out, I actually was given a shot in the leg right after delivery because I was loosing so much blood. (no kidding, Chase just kinda ran out.)
At the end of the day, I had no drugs, no pitocen, just had my water broken. I was also in and out of the hospital in 24 hours. It was a great experience. I also got to enjoy a yummy Cheese Cake from the Cheese Cake Facory that evening.
